Commercial Portraiture

I was commissioned to paint a full portrait of Ulysses S. Grant for a client in California. I put all my small brushes to use on this one. The overall painting is 24 x 20 inches. Grants head in this painting measures about 1.5 inches high.

Below are examples of portrait paintings and drawings I have created for corporate boardrooms and commercial publications.

This painting was executed under a 15 day deadline and measures 60 x 56 inches

detail

This portrait, a WWII veteran and the late CEO of a large NY firm, was painted under a 12 day deadline from multiple source photos. The request was to reconstruct his appearance at middle age, and to reflect his strength and determination. However, the source photos were only from early adulthood and his later years, so it was necessary to reconstruct his appearance at middle age. It was the first time I recall putting my anthropology background to use... the client was very pleased with the likeness and bearing.

Phillip Angelides, CA State Treasurer

(This stippled portrait, and the ones that follow, were created for magazine interviews about the real estate industry.)
